Introduction to Beatitudes Series
The Beatitudes of our Lord in the Sermon on the Mount have been misunderstood by some. Actually they fit under the heading of what today might be called 'profiling'. Jesus is 'profiling' the manners and morals of those who are truly His disciples (and therefore 'blessed') as opposed to those like the scribes and Pharisees were thought by that generation to be really pious and in great standing with God. Far from it, Jesus teaches indirectly. Actually these are the attributes of those who please God and have the gracious prospect of reward.
