Introduction to the Thessalonian epistles

August 24th 2011

The church in Thessalonica, located in ancient Macedonia, was a persecuted congregation distinguished by its "works of faith, labor of love and steadfastness of hope"---the hallmarks of Christian authenticity in every generation.  No wonder the apostle speaks so much in these two letters about our hope and things relating to the end times.  It is so important for believers to keep looking up and to not just live in the present, but, as the Apostle Peter says (1 Peter 1.13) to "gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ."  These two highly personalized letters from Paul to this suffering church are effective for setting our spirits in that direction.
