Epistle to the Romans

Introduction to Romans

A classics professor of mine in graduate school once declared to us that if he was on a lonely island and could have only one book in his possession, it would be the Odes and Epodes of Horace, the famed Latin poet. For myself, were there only one book of the Bible I could have with me wherever I was, one and one only, it would be Romans, authored by the Apostle Paul. That is because doctrinally Romans is like the first Christian theology text that expounds the gospel in all its fullness and implications and tangential issues and also expounds the way we should live in light of it.
