Most real Christians, as opposed to the nominal or cultural variety, seem today to have a growing sense of ‘climate change’ in the Western world and most especially in America. The hatred of the wicked for Christians is oozing out of the cracks. Persecution has by no means (as of this writing) hit full stride. There is no blood in the streets as in the early centuries when the Jews and the Romans subjected believers to bloody afflictions. But conditions may be changing, many sense. I Peter was addressed to believers, Jewish and Gentile in Asia Minor, who were facing or had faced the very conditions that many American Christians are fearing.
