Recently a radio listener called me and told me he has “just recently been born again.” Then he asked where he should start reading his Bible. Like many who must answer that question, I recommended the Gospel of John, not because it is ‘better’ than other Scriptures but because of John’s stated reason in writing it: “Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” Given that authorial design of the Holy Spirit (through John), I love to teach this particular gospel. Its teaching is simple, yet so profound.
