Worldliness

These passages emphasize the impossibility of a true believer being wedded to the values and pursuits of this world. The Apostle John says, “Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world” (1 John 2:15-16). These passages will help us define these three aspects of worldliness and help us examine at what point we have been co-opted into idolatry.

We will also learn why the rejection of worldliness is a test of Christian credibility and how to guard our hearts against it.
